I was first given the book “grow your own drugs” by James Wong back in 2009 when it was fresh off the press.
I was gifted the book by a friend as I had been complaining about how dry and chapped my hands were from working as a painter.
At the time I hadn’t even considered an alternative to something other than a shop bought solution. But I now had the book and leafing through i found a recipe for hand care it consisted of only 6 ingredients most of which were quite readily available and set out to see if it worked, after all I had nothing to lose and it was very easy to make, just put it all in a bowl and mix.The mixture felt soothing as I applied it and smelled really nice it absorbed into my dry hands with no problem and no oily residue. It worked really well after about a week or so my hands felt a lot better and less dried and craggy. Overall I was happy with the results. I was definitely impressed enough to try other remedies listed in this book. I even recommended it to someone that had had varicose veins and they said it had helped sooth them a lot prior to surgery.
The list of recipes in this book is extensive and covers a good range of every day issues. Including:
Digestive disorders.
Skin Complaints.
Kids
Aches and Pains.
Womens Stuff.
Under the weather.
Mind.
face and Body.
The book is full of beautiful colour plates showing what to do and how to do it.
There is a chapter on making a foraging kit for when you go out looking for plants to use in you recipes.
I really love this book and use it regularly and would heartily recommend it to anyone as I thing it is massively under priced for the great information it contains.
